Bulgaria silver coins are available in the marketplace today from several different eras of the Eastern European country. Silver coins, including proofs, are perhaps the busiest area of the Bulgarian coin market today; gold Bulgaria coins are more valuable but not nearly as numerous.
Earlier rulers of modern-day Bulgaria, including the Thracian Odrysian Kingdom that ruled from 460 BC, issued silver coins, as did later Bulgarian rulers such as those of the Asen and Shishman Dynasties.
Of particular interest to Bulgaria silver coin buyers are the pieces of the Principality of Bulgaria and the subsequent Kingdom of Bulgaria, which proudly asserted Bulgarian autonomy after centuries of rule by the Ottoman Empire. These silver Bulgarian coins date from between 1878 and 1946.

Modern Bulgaria silver coins
The Communist party that led Bulgaria from 1946 until 1989 also issued silver coins, including special commemorative pieces for collectors. The new Republic of Bulgaria, in place since 1990, has kept up the silver coin tradition.
Silver Bulgarian coins come in a variety of denominations, in both the main unit of lev (plural leva) and its subdivision, stotinka (plural stotinki). Special silver Bulgarian coinage has been made in denominations as high as 10,000 leva.
