Now, you may be wondering why I was so keen on getting my hands on some British Virgin Islands coins. Well, let me tell you, I’ve had good luck with them in the past. Last year, I sold a 1964 British Virgin Islands silver dollar for a cool $500 on eBay. So, you can see why I was eager to go back and get some more.

A little background on the British Virgin Islands and their coins. The British Virgin Islands are a group of islands in the Caribbean, east of Puerto Rico. The islands were settled by the Dutch in the early 17th century, then were taken over by the British in 1672. Today, they are a British Overseas Territory. The British Virgin Islands have their own currency, the US dollar is also accepted, and the coins are minted in a variety of metals and denominations.
My plan for getting the coins was simple: I was going to get them in change from buying something. Easy, right? Wrong. It turns out that finding the coins was a bit more difficult than I had anticipated. I spent five long hours searching for them, trying to buy things from every store I could find, but no luck.

I was in Road Town, the capital of the British Virgin Islands. It’s a small town located on the main island of Tortola. The town is situated in a beautiful natural harbor, surrounded by hills and greenery. The weather was hot and humid, and I was not a fan. The humidity made my skin feel like it was melting off my body. To be honest, I didn’t really like the town. It was too different from the part of Canada I live in.
I did manage to find some delicious street food, though. I had a plate of fried conch, a local delicacy. The flavor was a mix of sweet and savory, with a slightly chewy texture. I loved it.

After my unsuccessful search in Road Town, I hopped on a ferry to another town called Spanish Town, located on the island of Virgin Gorda. This is where the real adventure began. I walked into a small store and purchased a bottle of water. And there, in my change, were the British Virgin Islands coins I had been searching for. Success!
But the adventure didn’t end there. As I was leaving the store, I noticed a group of guys hanging out on the street corner. They looked a bit rough around the edges, but something about them caught my eye. They were counting money, and I noticed that they had a few coins in their pile that I recognized as valuable.

I approached them cautiously, but they turned out to be very friendly and knowledgeable about coins. We chatted for a while, and I even bought a few coins from them. It was a great experience, and it just goes to show that you never know who you’ll meet on your adventures.
After that, I used my trusty time machine to come back to present-day Canada. And, after much deliberation, I decided to keep the coins for myself instead of selling them on eBay. Who knows, maybe I’ll go back to the British Virgin Islands someday and try my luck again.
