Benefits of 8-track tape lots: A real-world story
We knew someone who bought about 1,200 8-track tapes for $250 (about 21 cents each). Most were used; a few were sealed. They picked out the ones they wanted – John Lennon quadraphonic tapes, Stevie Wonder’s Hotter Than July, etc. – and kept the rest for trading with others online.
They published a list of what they didn’t need, with a Want List of tapes and artists. The Want List had pretty rare and hard to find things – Strawberry Alarm Clock, Velvet Underground, early 1980s Neil Young, etc. The offer was for 5-1 trades: pick five tapes from the list for each tape you have from our Want List. It worked well – win-win, and everyone’s 8-track collections grew.
