Bhutan gold foil stamps
for philatelists and other buyers

The Kingdom of Bhutan has released several special postage stamps printed on foil in its history. Many of these are “coin-like” stamps, using the reflectiveness of foil to emulate the look (and design) of a coin. Others examples of these unusual Bhutanese stamps are printed on gold foil to commemorate various things.

In 1966, Bhutan issued a series of coin-like embossed stamps on gold foil in honor of King Jigme Wangchuk. In 1973, the same year as the country’s famous phonograph record stamps, another series commemorated the 1972 death of the beloved monarch. Also common in the Bhutan stamp collectors’ marketplace today is the 1975 green and gold foil stamp honoring the new king, Jigme Singye Wangchuk.
