Guam rare 1974 dollars for coin
collectors and other buyers

An unofficial “Guam Dollar” coin was made in 1974 for the island of Guam, which normally uses American currency. This coin, denominated as One Dollar, features the legend “Where America’s Day Begins”, a reference to Guam’s geographical position just west of the International Date Line and its political position as a territory of the United States. The reverse depicts Spain’s Ferdinand Magellan, who made the first Western contact with Guam in the 1560s.

There aren’t a great many of these coins on the market today, but it is usually not too hard to find a couple for sale in various conditions. Owning one of these unusual coins can be a great boost and an interesting conversation piece for any collection, especially for collectors of unusual coinage, American coins, or coins of the Pacific islands.
