In far western India, the Gujarat Sultanate (like other areas such as the Jaunpur and Malwa Sultanates) broke off from the Delhi Sultanate, declaring its independence in 1407. The leaders of the sultanate issued their own coins.
The coins of the Gujarat Sultanate were both silver and copper, like other sultanates of the time — but there are also some gold examples that show up on the marketplace from time to time, and are unsurprisingly the subject to the greatest attention from buyers.
Collecting coins from the Gujarat Sultanate usually means collecting the coins of its different leaders, of which there were several until the sultanate’s becoming part of the Mughal Empire in 1583.
