US rare flying eagle cents for coin
collectors and other buyers

The United States‘ first small-size one cent coin, after a series of large cent coins, was the “flying eagle” penny of 1856-1858. The figure of Liberty (most recently seen on the large braided hair cent) was replaced by a soaring eagle on the obverse side, with a simple wreath on the reverse with the coin’s value.

Although the flying eagle cent was only extant for a short time, it is popular with collectors. Those interested in buying flying eagle one cent coins for their collections should check the current for sale listings. Selection represents several dealers and vendors and is updated daily. In 1859, a new small penny was designed and issued, the famous Indian head cent.
