Aitutaki rare stamps
for philatelists and other buyers

Aitutaki is a very small island in the Cook Islands, which is overseen by nearby New Zealand. Aitutaki used the stamps of New Zealand and the Cook Islands with its own overprint for much of its history, but now issues its own stamps, generally intended for the international stamp collectors crowd.

From 1892 until 1903, and again from 1911 to 1920, New Zealand stamps overprinted ‘AITUTAKI’ were used. In 1920, and again from 1924-1927, stamps inscribed AITUTAKI were finally used. In 1932 these were discontinued, and oveprinted Cook Islands stamps were used instead.

This lasted all the way until 1972, when Aitutaki decided to court the stamp collectors’ market with its own stamps and first day covers. Since that time, Aitutaki has issued many lovely stamps honoring a wide range of subjects, from Queen Elizabeth to marine life to its popular bird stamps.
