Tonga rare banknotes
and collectible paper money

The Kingdom of Tonga issued its first paper money — treasury notes — in 1921; these notes, in shillings and pounds, would be issued with different designs until 1966. The earliest of these notes are very rare, while subsequent treasury notes from Tonga can be much more affordable for the average collector.

In 1967, Tonga changed its currency system, and from this point all Tongan banknotes are in pa’anga (1 pa’anga = 100 seniti; there have been 1/2 pa’anga notes but no actual seniti notes). Tongan paper money features a likeness of the king.
