Cook Islands rare banknotes
and collectible paper money

In 1894, New Zealand printed, but did not issue, two banknotes worth 2 and 4 shillings for the Cook Islands. Because they were not issued, these notes are very valuable and very hard to find. The first modern banknotes for the Cook Islands, now a dependency of New Zealand, were issued in 1987. There were three denominations issued that year — 3 dollars, 10 dollars, and 20 dollars.

In 1992 another series of Cook Islands banknotes was issued, this time with four values (the 1987 values, plus a 50 dollar note). Three years later, the Cook Islands government began replacing most of their banknotes with New Zealand notes — only the $3 Cook Islands notes remained in circulation.
