Jordan's 1/2 dinar (500-fil) banknote, discontinued in 1999. (With closeup of 'face value'.)
From 1949 until 1999, the Central Bank of Jordan also printed 1/2 dinar (500 fils) notes; production on these ceased with the introduction of 500-fil coins. This was also the date of today's 50-dinar notes; 20-dinar notes were introduced in 1977.
Finding dealers and other collectors with good Jordanian notes for sale (including uncirculated notes) is generally pretty easy; local dealers and online sources can be easily found. Given Jordan's simple banknote plan and the relatively short history of the county's own circulation, collecting all (or most) of Jordan's denominations past and present can be a really interesting and manageable focus for a collection or sub-focus of a larger Middle Eastern banknote collection.
