Jay-Z waxing nostalgic about Atari 2600 and ColecoVision

While promoting a turntable-based variant of the Guitar Hero video game, Jay-Z mentioned his childhood love of classic video games to someone from the NY Times blog:
"I was really, really heavy into video games growing up. I was a fanatic with sports games. Starting with Atari. From Atari, ColecoVision, Atari 2600, to PlayStation to XBox." — Jay-Z
That's how many of us started out; in fact, some would argue that you either started out with the classic systems of that era, the slightly earlier Pong era, or you aren't really old school.
The entire article, boring and insubstantial as it is, can be found here. Not much to it but it's cool to see the old systems get a mention from a guy like Jay-Z. Extra props for mentioning ColecoVision, not what we would have expected. Props further still for Jay-Z being specifically into sports games on the old systems; we've all played RealSports Football and you have to really be old school to be able to enjoy it. Particularly if you have a fondness for it in this day, when football video games are far, far more advanced.
In the interest of full disclosure, Pinball and Golf are two of our favorite Atari 2600 games and we can play them for hours. Next time we run into Jay-Z we'll see if we can get him to join us in an classic video game tourney. Of course we'll publish the results here just as soon as it happens. Just hope he doesn't think he can beat us in Super Mario Bros. 2.
